our food

In 2007 we were delighted to be awarded one of only three manchester gold food futures certificates for healthy and sustainable eating defined as ‘a truly five star eating establishment which puts into practice the values and vision of Food Futures in every area of service’

And, if you don’t want to soak up the friendly and relaxed atmosphere, everything is available to take-out.

You need not be a vegetarian or vegan, just into great, healthy home cooked food that is good for your body.

fair trade

When trade prices fall it can have catastrophic effects on small producers and their local communities.

Using fair-trade products means we are supporting reliable livelihoods for people who may otherwise be exposed to poverty and exploitation.

The myriad of choices in the consumer environment is sometimes mind boggling, but as consumers we can empower our spending by dealing in products that are free from exploitation and give people a consistent livelihood, our collective potential is enormous.

We do not function either to exploit our customers by charging overly high prices for our foods. We have confidence in paying a fair price for what we buy and charging a fair price for what we sell.

vegan

We cook vegan food as an expression of the fundamental Buddhist principle of not harming living beings. Dairy farming is inextricably linked with the meat industry and is itself a harmful, exploitative industry. Dairy cows and laying hens are amongst the most ill-treated of all farm-animals. Our chefs continually produce delicious and healthy dishes which contain no meat, egg or dairy produce thereby promoting a way of life which is free of harm.

However as most of our customers are not vegan we do offer organic dairy milk in hot drinks to those who prefer it to soya milk.

local seasonal produce

Right food, right place, right time. There is something deeply, unshakably right about eating food in season. It is about seasonality, certainly, but also about going with the flow, cooking with the natural rhythm of the earth.

Life in Britain was once intimately entwined with the seasons. Today, it is all too easy to lose sight of food’s natural timing and, worse, to miss it when it is at its sublime best. The simple fact is food tastes better in season. Local produce is better to eat than food that has been raised artificially or that has traveled halfway around the world. Eating locally and in season will set us on a path to a tastier, healthier and more sustainable food chain. Let’s simply revel in the variety of the seasons.

We produce a new menu every season to make the most of the season’s fruit and vegetables.
